VIVA – Ahead of Eid al-Adha 1444 Hijri, the Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) gives sacrificial cows to all 38 provinces, according to Government

"President will give sacrificial cows to commemorate Eid al-Adha in 2023. Last year, it was 34 provinces, now it is 38 as there are new provinces," Head of the Presidential Secretariat Heru Budi Hartono said, on Friday.

Furthermore, Hartono revealed that the President's sacrificial cows in each province will be managed according to the proposals of the respective provincial governments.

"So there are proposals from the governors for the cattle to be distributed," he continued.

He also explained that in providing the President's sacrificial cows, the Presidential Secretariat cooperates with the Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Religious Affairs, in this case, the Directorate General of Islamic Public Guidance. 

He ensured that the sacrificial cows handed over by the President are the best cows that have been confirmed for their health.

"(Sacrificial animals) are checked for health, must be free from foot and mouth disease, and obviously weigh between 900 kilograms to 1.2 tons," he informed. 

For the type of cattle, Hartono said that the cattle distributed to each province have various types, including simental, limousin, Angus, brahman, and Peranakan Ongole. For Jakarta, the cow that will be handed over to Istiqlal Mosque is a simental bull weighing 1.2 tons.

"For Jakarta, the President will hand over one cow to Istiqlal Mosque, a simental breed weighing 1.2 tons or 1,200 kilograms, male," Hartono said. 

To ensure the management of sacrificial cattle in each province goes well, he said that the Presidential Secretariat has coordinated with several parties. He also hopes that all relevant agencies in the provinces can help take good care of the President's sacrificial cattle.
