VIVA – Jose Mourinho was suspended for four matches in Europe for assaulting referee Anthony Taylor after Roma lost to Sevilla in the Europa League Final, UEFA announced on Wednesday.
He confronted Taylor in the car park, following Roma's defeat on penalties after a 1-1 draw in Budapest.
"Mourinho is suspended for the next four European club competition matches that he could have participated in, for hurling abuse at match officials," UEFA said in a statement.
Mourinho's team will play in the Europa League group stage next season.
Roma was also fined 50,000 euros and banned from being accompanied by their fans for the next European match, as fans set off fireworks, threw objects, committed vandalism, and disturbed order.
The Italian capital club was also fined 5,000 euros for misconduct and required to contact the Hungarian Football Federation within 30 days to resolve the issue of damage caused by their fans at the stadium.
Taylor and his family were also harassed by Roma fans at Budapest Airport, the day after the final match.
Sevilla, on the other hand, received no punishment from UEFA despite fans entering the pitch, and players and fans behaving inappropriately.
West Ham United was also fined 58,000 euros and cannot be accompanied by their fans for two Europa League away games next season, related to the Europa League Conference final match against Fiorentina.
Fiorentina captain Cristiano Biraghi suffered a head injury as a result of an object thrown by West Ham fans.
West Ham, who won 2-1 in the final, were also sanctioned for their fans entering the pitch.
