Jokowi Announces End of COVID-19 Pandemic Status in Indonesia

Jakarta – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on Wednesday officially announced the end of the COVID-19 Pandemic in Indonesia after being set three years ago. It signs that Indonesia is ready for the endemic stage.
"After more than three years we fight the COVID-19 pandemic together, on Wednesday, June 21, the government decides to revoke the pandemic status," President Joko Widodo said in his remarks to the press at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.
President Jokowi said this decision was taken after the government considered various things. One is the confirmation of positive COVID-19 cases which has been almost zero lately.
In addition, the Government has also conducted various surveys to find out the immune conditions Indonesians. As a result, 99 percent of people already have antibodies or immunity to the COVID-19 virus.
"The results of the sero survey show that 99% of Indonesian people already have COVID-19 antibodies. WHO (World Health Organization) has revoked the status of a public emergency which has become an international concern," the Head of state explained.
Though the pandemic has been declared over, President Widodo asked residents to remain cautious and continue to follow a clean and healthy lifestyle.
He hopes that with the lifting of the pandemic status, people can live normally as before the Covid-19 pandemic. Indonesia's economy is also expected to return to normal.
"Obviously, with this decision, the national economy will move better and improve the quality of people's socio-economic life," he concluded.
