Jokowi Warmly Welcomes Japanese Emperor Naruhito at Bogor Palace

Bogor – The Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) warmly welcomed Japanese Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako at Bogor Palace, on Monday.
During this state visit, President Widodo and Empress Naruhito visited and toured Griya Anggrek to see several orchid collections owned by Kebun Raya Bogor.
Both also held a discussion, while First Lady Iriana and Empress Masako will have tea together after visiting Griya Anggrek.
Several ministers alsoattended the welcoming ceremony included Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, and Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi.
As known, Emperor Naruhito's visit to Indonesia is his first visit after ascending the throne on May 1, 2019.
"I feel very honored that Indonesia is the first destination for the Emperor of Japan's first bilateral visit abroad," Jokowi said at a joint press conference.
Furthermore, Japanese Emperor's Press Secretary Kojiro Shiojiri said Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako will make a five-day visit to Indonesia and arrive at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on Saturday.
Shiojiri said that Emperor Naruhito is visiting Indonesia at the invitation of Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) who visited Japan in July last year.
Shiojiri also said that Emperor Naruhito was eager to see firsthand the development of relations between Indonesia and Japan.
In addition, he said that this year is meaningful as diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Japan have reached 65 years, and 50 years of relations between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and Japan.
Shiojiri said Emperor Naruito visited two places in Jakarta, namely Lebak Bulus MRT Depot and Pluit Reservoir Pumping Station on Sunday.
