Police Rescue Thousands of TPPO Victims, 284 Suspects Arrested

Jakarta – Based on investigations conducted by the Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) of the National Police during June 5-13, 2023, the number of victims of Human Trafficking in Persons (TPPO) reached thousands of people over nine days.

"Based on the number of victims of TPPO as many as 1,006 people," Head of the Public Information Bureau of the National Police Public Relations Division Brigadier General Ahmad Ramadhan said on Friday.

In detail, the TPPO Task Force of Bareskrim and North Kalimantan Police rescued 233 people, North Sumatra Police 135 people, West Sumatra Police 10 people, Riau Police 36 people, Riau Islands Police 21 people, Jambi Police 6 people, South Sumatra Police 3 people, Bengkulu Police 8 people, Lampung Police 24 people, Banten Police 21 people.

Then, Metro Jaya Police 12 people, West Java Police 73 people, Central Java Police 1,305 people, East Java Police  69 people, Bali Police 25 people, West Nusa Tenggara Police 4 people, East Nusa Tenggara Police 82 people, West Kalimantan Police 135, East Kalimantan Police 28, South Sulawesi Police 15, North Sulawesi Police 7, Central Sulawesi Police 6, Papua Police 1 person.

Ramadhan said, from the disclosure of this case, a total of 284 suspects were arrested.

Furthermore, Ramadhan said, the police found a number of modes carried out by the perpetrators. Starting from Illegal Migrant Workers (PMI) / domestic helpers (PRT) as much as 84 percent.

"The crew members (ABK) are 3 percent, commercial sex workers (PSK) are 12 percent, and child exploitation is one percent," Ramadhan informed.
