Cikarang – Safety riding instructors are professionals who specialize in teaching individuals how to drive safely and responsibly. They provide structured training and guidance to help beginner drivers develop the necessary skills and knowledge needed to navigate the roads safely.
One of the pioneers of the motorcycle industry in Indonesia, Astra Honda Motor (AHM) has been conducting safety riding instructor competitions since 2007. The company looks that it is important to support a safe and comfortable riding culture in public.
In 2023, there is something different from the driving safety instructor competition held by Honda, namely Coaching skill education.
"This year, the safety driving instructor competition has new criteria, namely the coaching skill test. So, it is not only related to riding skills, but also the ability to hazard prediction is important and essential," said Johanes Lucky as Safety Riding PT Astra Honda Motor at the 14th Astra Honda Safety Riding Instructors Competition (AHSRIC) in 2023, Cikarang, West Java.
He further explained: "We need to introduce hazard prediction to all drivers, teaching them how to recognize hazards, potential hazards, and how to avoid them, especially while riding. Because it's not only driving skills but also how we can predict hazards on the road."
Moreover, coaching skill is essential for driving instructors to effectively teach and guide beginner during riding lessons. For one example coaching skill is important because the rider can learn how to ride patience and empathy.
Learning to ride can be challenging and stressful for some people, especially for driving instructors. They should demonstrate patience and empathy, and educate how to create a supportive and encouraging learning environment to help beginner riders build confidence and overcome their fears or anxieties.
In riding, safety must be a priority to prevent accidents. The importance of a riding mindset is also essential, not just about driving skills. Riding safety is also a priority, regardless of gender.
