VIVA – The medal-winning athletes at the 2023 ASEAN Para Games will get a five percent increase in bonus, this was conveyed by the Indonesian Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Gunawan Suswantoro.Â
"Regarding bonus, there is no difference in the number of bonuses received by athletes who won the 2022 SEA Games medal in Vietnam. Even the amount of bonuses will increase by about 5 percent from the previous SEA Games bonus," Suswantoro said when welcoming the arrival of the ASEAN Para Games athletes at Adi Soemarmo Airport, Boyolali, on Saturday.Â
He also expressed his pride for the success of the ASEAN Para Games in Cambodia because the results were unexpected, "Indonesia can record a hat trick as the overall champion," he said.Â
"There are several sports whose medal results are unexpected, exceeding the target, namely para-renang, para-athletics, blind judo, weightlifting, and table tennis. I am proud, hopefully, this will be the beginning of September towards the Asian Para Games in Guangzhou," he added.Â
"Obviously, this will also be equalized with a 5 percent increase for the ASEAN Para Games. For gold, the bonus is IDR 525 million. Anyway, the Vietnam SEA Games increase 5 percent in all," he said.
It is known that the Indonesian contingent at the 2023 ASEAN Para Games has arrived in Indonesia, and was also welcomed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives Puan Maharani.Â
Puan Maharani expressed her pride and congratulations to the athletes who had just participated in a sports party for athletes with disabilities in Southeast Asia.Â
She also claimed to be proud of the success of the athletes who are members of the Indonesian National Paralympic Committee (NPC) to become the overall champion for the third time in a row at the ASEAN Para Games.
"The athletes have all returned and managed to become three-time hattrick overall champions by bringing 159 gold medals, 148 silver medals, and 94 bronze medals. So in total, there are 401 medals. This is an honor for Indonesia that these athletes can become three-time overall champions. I congratulate all athletes for their achievements," Puan Maharani explained.Â
Furthermore, Chef de Mission of the Indonesian Contingent for the ASEAN Para Games 2023, Andi Herman said that in the Cambodia ASEAN Para Games, Indonesian athletes maximized their abilities so that they could exceed the set targets.Â
In addition, he revealed that many Indonesian athletes managed to make history at the sports party, such as breaking records. He said the record-breaking was 15 records that were successfully carried out by Indonesian athletes.
"Record breaking occurred in four of the weight lifting sports and 11 of the pararenang sports. This shows that the coaching of para games athletes by the NPC is going well. This is evidenced by the achievement of the most medals and record-breaking, so the previously set targets are exceeded," he stated.Â
