VIVA – The Indonesian First Lady Iriana Jokowi is doing organic waste composting activities at the Presidential Palace in Tampaksiring, Bali, in commemoration of World Environment Day 2023.
"In commemoration of World Environment Day 2023, I invite mothers from all 38 provinces of Indonesia to compost together," Mrs. Jokowi said in Gianyar on Saturday.
During the organic waste composting activity at the "Kompos Satu Negeri" event, the First Lady was seen moving materials alongside the wife of Vice President Wury Ma'ruf Amin and members of the Solidarity Action Organization of the Era of the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet (OASE KIM).
Representatives from each province also participated remotely, allowing the first lady to interact with representatives from Riau and Yogyakarta during the event.
A representative from Riau shared that organic waste composting has been taking place in their region since 2007, primarily carried out by farmer groups, women, and Family Welfare Development.
Meanwhile, a participant from the Pendulan Berseri Central Waste Bank in the Special Region of Yogyakarta mentioned that they practice composting using a tool called "Losida."
They explained that Losida is a kitchen waste container, a simple tool considered sufficient for managing household waste, which is currently being promoted for implementation throughout the community.
In response, Mrs. Iriana Jokowi emphasized the importance of implementing organic waste composting consistently in the region due to its numerous benefits.
"Hopefully, this will be sustained, don't stop, continue producing compost. It is cost-effective and highly beneficial," she expected.Â
After the composting activity, the participants continued with a durian tree planting event.
As known, the first lady's presence at the Presidential Palace in Tampaksiring is part of her visit to Bali, where the first day, last Friday, was spent meeting elementary school students to play international games, followed by attending a parade of women wearing traditional Balinese attire.
