Government Gives IDR 289 Billion Bonus to SEA Games Athletes, Coaches

VIVA – The Indonesian government through President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has awarded a bonus of IDR 289 billion to national athletes, coaches, and assistant coaches for fighting and successfully winning gold, silver, and bronze medals at the 2023 SEA Games.

President Joko Widodo admitted that he was happy and said the bonus is a form of appreciation to those who had given the best results for Indonesia.

"At first, I targeted the Minister of Youth and Sports that the gold medal target was at least 69. But it turns out, the SEA Games in Cambodia, we won 89 gold medals, 80 silver medals, and 109 bronze medals," he explained when receiving hundreds of Indonesian athletes at the State Palace grounds, Central Jakarta on Monday.

Therefore, President Jokowi gave a bonus of IDR 289 billion to them, "To present the achievement bonus to athletes, coaches, and assistant coaches, the government allocated IDR 289 billion," he said.

The Head of State also expressed his gratitude for the athletes' achievements and struggles at the 2023 SEA Games.

"On behalf of all Indonesian people, I would like to express my deepest appreciation for the good struggle of the medalists who have worked hard," the head of state said.

Each athlete in the individual sports category was awarded IDR 525 million for a gold medal, IDR 315 million for a silver medal, and IDR 157.5 million for a bronze medal.

Meanwhile, the government gave IDR 420 million to gold medalists, IDR 252 million to silver medalists, and IDR 126 million to bronze medalists in doubles sports.

The awarding of sports honors was following the regulations outlined in Article 99 Paragraph 1 of Law Number 1 of 2022 on Sports and Article 2 Paragraph 1 of the Presidential Regulation Number 44 of 2014 regarding sports achievements awarding.
