VIVA – The time for Lionel Messi with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has come to an end. It has confirmed by PSG Head Coach Christophe Galtier on Thursday.
"I had the privilege of coaching the best player in the history of football. The match against Clermont (on Saturday, the team's last of the season) will be Leo's last match at the Parc de Princes," he said.
As information, On May 2, PSG suspended Messi for two weeks for missing training while he was fulfilling his sponsorship contract as a Saudi Ambassador in Saudi Arabia, but his suspension was cut short.
During his two seasons at PSG, Lionel Messi contributed two French League trophies and one Trophée des Champions.
But he failed to lead the team to the Champions League, even though that was the main reason he was brought in from Barcelona in the summer of 2021.
Les Parisiens were even always eliminated in the round of 16 for two consecutive years, starting from Real Madrid and then Bayern Munich.
This failure seemed to cover Messi's contribution in Paris, who scored 32 goals and 35 assists in 74 appearances.
"It's been a privilege for me to coach the best player in history," Galtier told a press conference on June 1, 2023.
"This weekend will be his last game at the Parc des Princes, I hope he will be welcomed in the best possible way," he added.
PSG will close the Ligue 1 season by facing Clermont Foot at home on Sunday, June 4, 2023, at 2 AM in West Indonesian Time.
The match did not mean much to Les Parisiens because they had locked the title a week earlier.
