Jokowi-PM Trudeau Discuss Economic Cooperation, Condition in Myanmar

VIVA – The Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) asked Prime Minister (PM) of Canada, Justin Trudeau for support regarding the economic cooperation agreement between the two countries, as well as discussing a little about the condition in Myanmar.

This was conveyed by the Head of State during a bilateral meeting with PM Trudeau on Saturday, at the Rihga Royal Hotel, Hiroshima, Japan.

"Please support regarding the completion of the Indonesia-Canada CEPA agreement, the realization of Canadian Pension Funds investment which focuses on the development of the Archipelago Capital, the development of a funding mechanism for feasibility studies for greenfield projects in Indonesia," the President said.

In addition, the President also hopes to accelerate the realization of green airport development in North Kalimantan, exploration earth metals, and the establishment of bilateral task force.

The President also appreciated the support of G7 countries, including Canada, in helping Indonesia's energy transition.

"I hope the support of USD 20 billion can be realized immediately but not in the form of debt," the President stated.

Then, about food security, the President encouraged the implementation of an agreement between Indonesian SOEs and the Canadian Commercial Corporation regarding the supply of potash and wheat.

During the meeting, President Jokowi and Prime Minister Trudeau also discussed ASEAN, including the condition in Myanmar.

President Widodo informed that the ASEAN-Canada Summit will be held in September 2023 in Indonesia.

"See you in Jakarta, Prime Minister Trudeau," the President Jokowi said. 

Also accompanying the President during the meeting were Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs; Airlangga Hartarto, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment; Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Retno Marsudi, Minister of State-owned Enterprises; Erick Thohir, Cabinet Secretary; Pramono Anung, and Director for East Asia at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Santo Darmosumarto.
