VIVA – The young Indonesian golf athlete, Randy Arbenata Mohamad Bintang explained about the struggle of the Indonesian golf team to win the bronze medal at the 2023 Cambodia SEA Games.
Indonesia sent seven golf athletes that successfully won two medals; silver and bronze. The silver medal was obtained from the women's team number after the Indonesian team lost to Thailand in the final match.
"First we played against the Philippines, and we got a tie score from three matches. Because Reyhan (Abdul Latief) won and Yoyok (Jonathan Xavier Hartono) lost, and Yoyok tied so the first day we had to go through a playoff, and the playoff on hole one was Reyhan playing that hole, and we won on that hole so we won the playoff," Bintang explained when met after the welcoming ceremony for SEA Games athletes at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tangerang, on Sunday.
He also said: "So, we advanced to the quarterfinals and met Vietnam, we went 2-1 there. We lost to Vietnam 2-1. Continuing to the semifinals, we played Malaysia for bronze,"
It is known that they managed to win 3-0 against Malaysia.
At the 2023 SEA Games, Vietnamese men's golfers dominated with one gold medal from the men's singles number and one silver medal from the men's team number. Bintang also recognized the strength of Vietnam, although he considered the Indonesian team to compete with other strong Southeast Asian countries.
"Now, for the men's team, the Vietnamese team dominates more. In the last few years. And now we can compete with teams like Thailand, Singapore," he stated.
After the SEA Games, another multi-branch event that will take place shortly is the Asian Games which will be held in September. For that, Arbenata is ready to give his best performance to strengthen the Indonesian team.
"For the Asian Games, I don't know if there will be qualifications or coach's choice or what. Anyway, keep practicing so that if selected for the Asian Games, I will perform optimally," Bintang said.
He also hopes: "One day, if my average score is good enough to play in professional events. I will switch to professional,"
