SEA Games Results Become Benchmark for the 2024 Olympics

VIVA – The results of the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia obtained by the Indonesian contingent is expected to be a benchmark for the 2024 Olympic championships in Paris, France, according to the Minister of Youth and Sports, Dito Ariotedjo.
"The SEA Games results can be a benchmark for the struggle towards the upcoming Olympics," Minister Ariotedjo stated during his speech at the inaugural ceremony of the Indonesian team contingent for the 2023 SEA Games at the Ministry of Youth and Sports Field on Tuesday, May 2.
Not only in the SEA Games, the Minister also said that the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China which will be held starting September 23 will also be the target event for the Indonesian contingent team towards the 2024 Olympics.
"The SEA Games and Asian Games multi-event can be an intermediate target towards the upcoming Olympics. So, based on the spirit of the Chairman of the NOC, our target is the Olympics," he continued.
On the same occasion, at the biggest championship in Southeast Asia, Minister Ariotedjo hopes that athletes can give their abilities as much as possible in order to achieve the target.Â
As information, Indonesia sent a total of 599 athletes who were accompanied by 230 coaches and team officials.
At the 32nd SEA Games, the Indonesian team participated in 31 sports from a total of 36 sports contested.
Furthermore, in his speech, minister also apologized for not being able to dispatch five sports for the 2023 SEA Games, namely traditional chess, floorball, sailing, petanque, and table tennis.
"I also want to apologize if indeed the team that has gone through these various processes, the best is decided to leave," Minister Ariotedjo remarked.
"But for those who do not go, I hope this will be an additional motivation for us to advance again and go to the next event," he added.
Especially for table tennis, he said the sport involving two or four players was being sought to continue to be played.
"Administratively is complete and ready. It's just a matter of administration in Cambodia. Insya Allah, we will fight for it," Minister said.Â
