Thailand Reports First Death Case Because of Arcturus Covid-19

VIVA – The Covid-19 pandemic is not over yet, the latest variant called Arcturus or XBB 1.16 is starting to spread almost all over the world. For the first time, one person died in Thailand caused of this variant.
The first death from the Arcturus strain, thought to be around 1.2 times more infectious than the last sub-variant, was recorded in Thailand yesterday, amid a surge in cases across the world.
"A total of 27 cases of XBB.1.16 have been detected in Thailand as of April 17, and one of them has died," Dr. Sirilak was quoted as saying by Thai PBS World on Monday.
This person was an unnamed elderly foreigner man with underlying health conditions who died from the new variant, "His death, therefore, may not directly reflect the severity of this subvariant but rather its impact on other risk factors," Sirilak informed.
Still, health officials have issued a warning regarding XBB.1.16 and urged the public to be cautious.

Recently, new symptoms have been added to the list that is specifically reported in children. Experts have highlighted that many patients experience itchy eyes, conjunctivitis, and red eyes. These eye-related symptoms were not seen in previous waves.
