President Jokowi and US Congress Members Discuss Climate Change Issue

VIVA – The Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) received a visit from US congress members on Wednesday. They discussed several important issues, such as Indonesia's cooperation with the United States or strategic partnership, climate change issues, and others.Â
According to Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi, the members of the United States Congress see Indonesia as a significant partner in the region.Â
In addition, the delegates also appreciated Indonesia's success in the G20 presidency last year. They also provided support for Indonesia's chairmanship of ASEAN.
"They repeated the success of Indonesian chairmanship of the G20 and they gave strong support to Indonesia's chairmanship of ASEAN for this year," Minister Marsudi stated.Â
Meanwhile, President Jokowi said the Indonesian government's commitment to climate change and environmental issues. He also conveyed several achievements of the government related to these two issues.
"Including the reduction of forest fires by more than 80 percent so far," she informed.Â
On that occasion, the President also expressed hope for support from the United States Congress on several issues. Starting from extension of the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) facility to market access.
Furthermore, the President also expects Indonesia to be part of the global supply chain of the US and the world. The President also expressed his request for US support for the energy transition, according to the Minister.Â
