VIVA – Chairman of the Executive Board of the Indonesian Swimming Association (PB PRSI), Anindya Novyan Bakrie warmly welcomed the arrival of the Chairman of the Indonesian Olympic Committee, Raja Sapta Oktohari to discuss Indonesia's continuity as host of the 2023 ANOC World Beach Games (AWBG).Â
"AWBG is number three in the world in terms of the size of the event, after the Summer Olympic and Winter Olympic. So, Indonesia gets the opportunity to host it, we must fight to keep it going," Anindya Bakrie stated at TCI Epicentrum Building, Jakarta, on Tuesday.Â
Bakrie added: "This is a reputation that's significant to maintain, so Indonesia remains an international destination, especially in sports. We know that sport is diplomacy in addition to achievement,"
As is known, this event is scheduled to take place on August 5-12, 2023 in Bali. However, the current situation is not good. There is an issue of rejection as happened in the 2023 U-20 World Cup.
The U-20 World Cup was canceled in Indonesia because recently there was a rejection of Israel's participation. And, the 2023 AWBG got into trouble. In response, Bakrie wants the best solution from the government for this.Â
"We hope that the government will succeed in maintaining AWBG in Indonesia and find a solution with the governing parties to keep it running," he expected.Â
On the other hand, Oktohari appreciated the support from Anindya Bakrie regarding achievements in this water sports field.Â
"I am grateful for the support of the Bakrie Media Group which has given full support to Indonesian sports. Hopefully, this relationship can bring our sporting achievements even better." he expressed.Â
