FIFA Revokes Peru’s Status as Host of U-17 World Cup 2023

VIVA – FIFA officially revoked Peru’s status as host of the U-17 World Cup 2023. This decision was taken after FIFA had discussions with the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF). This comes because Peru is considered unable to fulfill its commitment to build adequate infrastructure.
“Despite a very positive working relationship between FIFA and the FPF, it has been determined that there is now not sufficient time to secure the required investment and complete the necessary work with the Peruvian government ahead of the tournament start date,” wrote FIFA in the official statement on Monday.
“FIFA would like to express its thanks to the FPF for their efforts, and remains open to organizing a competition in Peru in the future,” the statement added.
In a written statement on its official website, FIFA also said that the tournament schedule will not change, which will still take place on November 10 to December 2. However, the FIFA Council Bureau is looking for a new host.
"The tournament remains scheduled to take place from November 10 to December 2, 2023, but the FIFA Council Bureau will now appoint a new host in due course," said a FIFA statement.
This is the second time FIFA has canceled the status of the host country for the World Cup in 2023. Last week, Indonesia was stripped of U-20 World Cup hosting rights.
