VIVA – The Indonesian women's singles badminton player Gregoria Mariska Tunjung made a sweet present for Indonesia as she won the 2023 Spain Masters in Madrid on Sunday.
The title was brought home by Tunjung after defeating Indian women's singles Pusarla Venkata Sindhu with two straight games 21-8, 21-8 in the final round of the BWF Super 300 level tournaments, as reported by the BWF official website.
She performed calmly and impressively in the match against Sindhu. This was their eighth meeting and this time, Tunjung was able to control the shots and rhythm of the game from the start.
Crossed punches and smashes repeatedly became points for her over the second-seeded player from India. Even Tunjung's pace was increasingly unstoppable after the first gym interval.
With an 11-7 advantage, Tunjung's points continued to grow due to the acquisition of six consecutive points to 17-7. Even though she was far ahead, he remained calm and was reluctant to rush to kill her opponent.
Meanwhile, Sindhu could only add one point which came from a Tunjung mistake, after her punch made the shuttle fall beside the line of the field.
After losing one point, the Indonesian representative scored another four points to end Sindhu's resistance with 21-8.
Tunjung was able to play patiently and serve the rallies given by the opponent. This patience is an advantage for her, so she can effectively gain the advantage. When Tunjung reached the interval with 11 points, Sindhu was still far behind with only three points.
The situation put more pressure on Sindhu. She often forced difficult returns, which led to errors in the form of shots that went out of court.
The Indonesian representative showed her dominance on the court, even winning six consecutive points to lead 18-4. It didn't take long for Tunjung to reach match point first, while Sindhu was still stuck at number eight and had no chance of catching up.
Then, the match ended with Gregoria Mariska Tunjung successfully won 21-8, 21-8 over Sindhu in 29 minutes.
