VIVA – Indonesia has the potential to fail as the host of the 2023 U-20 World Cup. The latest, FIFA is rumored to choose Peru as the host to replace Indonesia. This was revealed by former PSSI administrator and observer, Yesayas Oktavianus.
So far, the government has not yet made the FIFA decision public. "Actually, the government has received a letter of cancellation (host) from FIFA. However, they do not want to give a statement to the Indonesian people," Oktavianus said in a Good Radio Jakarta podcast.
"Maybe the government is trying to get Indonesia to continue hosting this prestigious event. Therefore, they need a little time to announce FIFA's decision.” He added.
According to Oktavianus in the letter, FIFA has appointed Peru as the host of the U-20 World Cup replacing Indonesia. As information, Peru is the host of the U-17 World Cup.
The 2023 U-20 World Cup is planned to be held starting May 20. However, the group phase draw which should have been held on March 31 in Bali was officially canceled by FIFA.
The cancellation of the 2023 U-20 World Cup draw was triggered by, among others, the refusal of the Governor of Bali, Wayan Koster, who rejected the arrival of the Israel U-20 national team on the Dewata Island.
