Ministry Gives National-ASEAN Standard Certified for Tourism Workers

VIVA – The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy targets as many as 45,000 tourism workers to be certified in tourism competencies with national to ASEAN standards in 2023.
"The target is that throughout 2022 as many as 18,000 tourism workers can be certified and in 2023 the number will increase to 45 thousand participants,” Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno stated in a written statement on Tuesday.
As information, the ministry held an activity "MoU Signing of Tourism HR Certification" in collaboration with LSP (Professional Certification Institute) Surya Abadi Konsultan, industry, associations, and the Government at Novotel Hotel, Mangga Dua, Jakarta on Monday.
This activity aims to accelerate the recovery and increase the productivity of the tourism sector and creative economy. The program includes upskilling, reskilling, and new skilling so that tourism human resources and also the creative economy is superior, competent, and competitive.
"This is expected to create job opportunities and business opportunities for competent and sustainable tourism and creative economy human resources," Minister Uno remarked.
Moreover, competency certification activities for tourism human resources were carried out in six priority tourism destinations, namely Lake Toba (North Sumatra), Wakatobi (Southeast Sulawesi), Labuan Bajo (NTT), Lombok (NTB), Borobudur-Yogyakarta-Prambanan (Yogya and Central Java), and Bromo-Tengger-Semeru (East Java).
The target is that throughout 2022 as many as 18,000 tourism workers can be certified and in 2023 the number will increase to 45,000 participants.
A certification consultant from Surya Abadi Konsultan, Agus Sutarna stated that with the competency certification, tourism and creative economy human resources would have better service standards.
Meanwhile, the Director of Competency Standardization of the ministry, Titik Lestari said that the signing of this MoU is one part of a series of Certification of Tourism Human Resources Programs in developing and obtaining recognition of competent tourism human resources.
And ensure the sustainability of the supply of skilled labor for the tourism sector with proof of competence in the form of certification issued by the National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP).
