VIVA – Diversity plays a significant role in the world because humans can learn to respect each other. Unfortunately, some people still discriminate, disrespect differences, and even bullying.

As one of the educational facilities in Indonesia, PPM School of Management invites all young generations to better understand the concept of inclusiveness – understanding the point of view of other people or groups with different backgrounds, through the DEI (Diversity, Equality, and Inclusive) program.

"We think it is very important for young generation, especially High school students to know about DEI. It is good for them to have the mentality to be able to side-by-side with people who are different from them, and how they respect people with disabilities." Said Anggun Pesona Intan, Social Entrepreneurship Lecturer from PPM School of Management during the DEI Roadshow: Creating Inclusive Agents from School at AM Kadarman Room, PPM School of Management, on Monday.

On the same occasion, the Director of Youth Development MyBlockMyHoodMyCity, Nathaniel Viets-VanLear from Chicago, United States, said that the issue of inclusivity is one of the most significant issues in the world.

“I think inclusivity is a worldwide. We’re all still struggling to find ways to innovate how we invite people to be concerned about this issue. A lot of people like to ignore that inclusivity is a problem, diversity is a problems. There’s like to pretend that we're doing everything okay that racism stopped during the civil rights movement, that we’ve answered the problems with sexism instead of addressing how we're still allowing these systems to keep people apart and to restrict opportunity” VanLear explained.

He also discussed how to handle this problem, such as by starting from ourselves to care more about inclusivity in society, and then trying to invite others to care about this issue too.

"I think the key is to start. How can one start to have conversations with people who might look different – have special needs or disabilities – that's how one person can change another. You give examples from the behavior and then other people follow you. And I think social media is an amazing tool that one person can use today to make a big difference by doing that,” he stated.

Therefore, with the DEI program from the PPM School of Management, it is hoped that it can make young generation more aware of issues of diversity, equality, and inclusiveness.
