VIVA – The National Capital or IKN Nusantara construction is still ongoing and prioritizes renewable energy to achieve the Net Zero Emission in 2060 in Indonesia.

PT PLN (Persero) Director of Project Management and Renewable Energy Ir. Wiluyo Kusdwiharto said that the company has made the 2021-2030 Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL) to help realize Net Zero Emissions in 2060.

"Yes, currently, the RUPTL has been approved for 2021 to 20230. We have built almost 2 Giga of development progress, continue to build, and it is hoped that zero emissions can be fully implemented in 2060," Kusdwiharto said during the Regional Conference (Musywil) of Chairman of the Alumni Family Association (IKA) of Institut Teknologi Sepuluh November (ITS) Jakarta at Hotel Borobudur on Tuesday.

According to Kusdwiharto, the company is also cooperating with several partners from state-owned or private companies. There is a plan to replace coal in PLTU (Steam Power Plant) with a biomass program. But currently, the process is still 5%.

The use of PLTU itself is still used in the majority. However, according to him, the company has a target to pursue Net Zero Emission by 2060.

"For now, the majority still uses PLTU. But (we) have a target. So, for PLTU, we have a Pashing out program, so it is gradual. Do not let this transition replacement from fossil to renewable make people burdened with price increases or burden the government with an increase in subsidies. Therefore, we do it gradually until finally 2060 we can replace PLTU," he explained.

On the same occasion, the Chairman of IKA ITS Greater Jakarta, Rifqi Isnanda said that ITS has done a lot of research on renewable energy such as electric vehicles that will be mass-produced.

Kejar Target 'Net Zero Emission'

"ITS has done a lot of research on renewable energy, such as electric vehicles that will be mass-produced. ITS itself has a special research center to deal with the problem of vehicles with renewable energy," said Isnanda.

He also said that the potential for Indonesia to fully transition to electric is very large because Indonesia is the location of raw materials for future batteries that will be needed by many people. Although it is known that the battery material is Lithium which is located in Australia, Isnanda said that the basic material is still a nickel.

"Yes, (Lithium) is only a support, the basic material is still a nickel. So, the most important thing is the development of nickel smelters that must be developed. So in the future, the government with the current planning should be supported, because the mining export process has been stopped, and must go through a smelter first," Isnanda remarked.

As information, IKA ITS also supports and encourages the planning of an integrated and sustainable electric vehicle ecosystem, starting from the provision of vehicles (mass and private transportation), charging or battery swapping infrastructure, energy storage, and clean energy used, to battery recycling.
