Indonesian Para-Badminton Team Wins 7 Golds in Spain

VIVA – The Indonesian para-badminton team successfully won seven gold medals at the Spanish Para-Badminton International 2023. This match was held in Vitoria, Spain from February 20-26, 2023.

Besides seven gold medals, as official data from NPC Indonesia on Monday, in the championship which was attended by 46 countries with 320 participants, the Indonesian para-badminton team also won two bronzes.

This success is a very proud moment because of the seven categories that competed in the final round on Sunday, all of them were able to complete with victory.

New mixed doubles SL3-SU5 category, Hikmat Ramdani/Leani Ratri Oktila won the gold medal after defeating Indian pair, Chirag Baretha/Mandeep Kaur with the score of 21-11 and 21-12.

The second gold was presented by mixed doubles SH 6, Subhan/Rina Marlina who defeated the representatives from Thailand, Natthapong Meechai/Chai Saeyang with scores of 21-8 and 21-12.

SU5 men’s singles, Dheva anrimusthi won over Malaysia’s Cheah Like Hou with scores of 21-11 and 17-21. And Syakuroh Qonitah Ikhtiar downed Ukraine's Oksana Kozyna 21-9 21-14 to claim the SL3 women's singles gold. 

After that, in SH6 women's singles, Rina Marlina defeated India's Nithya Sre Sumathy Sivan 21-8 21-14 to win her second gold medal of the tournament.

This success was also obtained by Leani Ratri Oktila in the SL4 women's singles after fighting three games against Japanese player Haruka Fujino 21-11 14-21 21-13.

Ratri added to her collection of three gold medals at the BWF Para-Badminton International Level 2 event after being able to win in the SL3-SU5 women's doubles when paired with Khalimatus Sadiyah. They managed to easily defeat the Indian representatives, Manasi Girishchandra Joshi/Shanthiya Viswanathan with a scores of 21-9 21-9.

"I am very satisfied with the results I achieved in this tournament because I was able to win three golds in the three numbers that I participated in, namely women's singles, women's doubles, and mixed doubles. This tournament was very tough because it was followed by players from Japan and France," Ratri said in her official statement.

Competing in a place with cold temperatures was a challenge for Subhan, "I appeared in three numbers and am very satisfied with the results achieved here. All the opponents were tough and the challenge was even tougher because we had to compete in cold temperatures."

With 10 players and seven gold medals, the result is a good first step for Indonesian para-badminton in pursuing tickets to the Paris 2024 Paralympics.

"This tournament is of great interest to all countries because it is the first event in pursuing points towards the 2024 Paris Paralympics. We are satisfied with the results achieved by the team despite the players having to compete in cold weather," said Indonesian para-badminton team coordinator, Jarot Hernowo.
