VIVA – The Ministry of Transportation, through the Directorate General of Sea Transportation, will use the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code. This is aiming to improve international tourism services and the World Superbike (WSBK) motorcycle racing event in West Nusa Tenggara.
The ISPS Code is implemented to ensure the security of ships and other Port facilities, according to the Head of Sub-Directorate of Patrol and Security, Directorate of KPLP, Hermawan.
"The construction of the Gili Mas Port facility carried out by PT Pelabuhan Indonesia is one of the efforts made by the Directorate General of Sea Transportation to help the tourism sector in West Nusa Tenggara," Hermawan said in his statement Thursday, February 17, 2023.
As known, the ISPS Code is a comprehensive regulation governing security procedures for ships and port facilities and is part of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea.
According to Hermawan, currently, the infrastructure of Gilimas Port is good enough to serve international-class cruise ships that can accommodate around 1,500 people.
In addition, development is also carried out in several zones, namely the Container Zone with an area of 6.06 Ha, Logistics Zone with 1.18 Ha, Office, and Trade Business Zone with 2.95 Ha, Tourism / Marina Zone with 0.37 Ha, Utility Zone with 0.83 Ha, Government Zone 0.5 Ha, and Container Capacity 1900 Teus.
Hermawan explained that the regulation of visits by foreign yachts and cruises at Indonesian ports is regulated in the Minister of Transportation Regulation Number PM 4 of 2022, concerning services for foreign yachts and cruise ships in Indonesian waters.
"The purpose of this regulation is to further increase the visit of tourist ships (yachts) and foreign cruises to Indonesia and provide convenience in terms of processing documents to enter Indonesian waters," he remarked.
