VIVA – The Indonesian President Joko Widodo received the President of the World Water Council, Loic Fauchon, and his delegation at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Wednesday.

During the meeting, President Joko Widodo, among others, emphasized six topics that must be discussed in the upcoming 10th World Water Forum in Bali in 2024, one is the need for water for humans and the environment.

"We, the World Water Council and the National Organizing Committee for the 10th World Water Forum in Bali in 2024, have just been received by the President. He ordered six topics that must be discussed at the World Water Forum, including the need for water for humans and the environment," said Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), Basuki Hadimuljono.

According to Minister Basuki, the topic of water needs for humans and the environment is of concern because President Jokowi views that the world is currently facing a global water crisis. Therefore, the President hopes that the 10th World Water Forum in Bali can produce several concrete recommendations.

"He (President Jokowi) sees the global water crisis we are now facing. For this reason, he hopes that the 10th World Water Forum will not only be an ordinary conference but also produce concrete recommendations for action," Minister Basuki remarked.

Furthermore, the Minister said that on Monday-Tuesday, February 15-16, an initial meeting will begin which will be attended by the entire World Water Council Board of Governors consisting of 56 people. In addition, this inaugural meeting will also be attended by more than 1,400 participants.

"Hopefully, this kick-off meeting can go well to mobilize all. So the goal is to mobilize, move all stakeholders in the water sector to be more aware of the problems of managing water resources," Minister Basuki added.

Meanwhile, the President of the World Water Council, Loic Fauchon, expressed his appreciation for the support of President Joko Widodo and all stakeholders in Indonesia in the water sector.

"We must prepare for the next World Water Forum to be held in Bali next year and together in our coordination process try to provide new solutions, new responses that allow us to increase access to water for billions of people," Fauchon said.
