Jokowi Ensures Preparations of FIFA U-20 to FIBA 2023 in Indonesia

VIVA – The Indonesian President, Joko Widodo, ensures Indonesia’s readiness to host three international sport events in 2023. These three events are the 2023 FIFA U-20, the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, and the 2023 ANOC World Beach Games.

"The President has instructed me to immediately resolve the issues that have not been resolved. At the latest by the end of this month, I am asked to report back if there are things that are still missing," Minister of Youth and Sports Zainuddin Amali said in a press statement on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta.

The Minister of Youth and Sports revealed that overall preparations for the organization of the three interstate sports competitions have run smoothly, “Overall, we are ready, there are just a few things that need our attention," he said.

For the organization of the FIFA U-20 World Cup, said Minister Zainuddin, the government has renovated six stadiums prepared to host the international sporting event.

The six stadiums are Jakabaring Stadium in Palembang, South Sumatra; Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium in DKI Jakarta; Si Jalak Harupat Stadium in Bandung, West Java; Manahan Stadium in Solo, Central Java; Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium in Surabaya, East Java; and Captain I Wayan Dipta Stadium in Gianyar, Bali.

“After that, there are no problems anymore because everything is running smoothly. Then, the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing has done its job to renovate all the stadiums.” The Minister said.

The minister added that President Jokowi also discussed the follow-up of FIFA's policy of allowing opening and closing ceremonies at the event, which will be held in May and June 2023.

For the organization of the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, the government has prepared the Indoor Multifunction Stadium (IMS) Gelora Bung Karno as venue for the matches to be held in August and September, minister Zainudin said.

"For FIBA there are also no problems because we already have a multifunction venue that will be used by FIBA,"

The Minister added that preparations for the 2023 ANOC World Beach Games competition which will be held in Bali is also going well, “Overall we are ready.”
