VIVA – India Open 2023 in New Delhi enters the quarterfinal round on January 20, 2023. In this round, four Indonesian representatives from the men's singles and men's doubles sectors are ready to play for victory to go to the next round.
From the men's singles, Jonatan Christie admitted that he was ready to undergo a hard match to play against Chou Tien Chen from Taiwan.
"To face Chou Tien Chen in the quarter-finals, plus the heavy shuttlecock character, I have to be ready to get tired. The opponent is also not easy to turn off," Jonatan said through official PP PBSI information.
Of the 10 matches he has played against Chou, Jonatan ensures that his opponent is difficult to beat because he has a considerable level of power, "Hopefully with my younger age and greater power, I can overcome my rival," said Jonatan.
From the men’s doubles, world number one, Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto will play against Mark Lamsfuss/Marvin Seidel from Germany.
Despite holding a 2-1 advantage from their meeting record against Mark/Marvin, the Indonesian duo are always forced to play in three games lasting about an hour to win. Even their last two meetings both occurred in the round of 16 of the Malaysia Open, respectively in the 2022 and 2023 editions last week.
"We have to be more prepared in implementing the strategy. Fighting the German representatives is also not easy. We have to be ready to fight hard like when we met them at the Malaysia Open," Fajar stated.
Apart from Jonatan and Fajar / Rian, two other Indonesian representatives will play against opponents from China. In men's singles, Anthony Ginting will meet Li Shi Feng, while in men's doubles, Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo / Marcus Fernaldi Gideon will fight Liang Wei Kiang / Wang Chang.
