VIVA – Khabib Nurmagomedov officially retires from the world of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). He will stop being the coach of Islam Makhacev. Before deciding to withdraw from MMA completely, Khabib first retired as a UFC fighter in October 2022. He closed his career as a fighter with a victory over Justin Gaethje.
The news about Khabib's retirement from the world of MMA was confirmed by his former coach, Javier Mendez. He revealed that this decision was because Khabib wants to focus on spending time with his family.
"He just doesn't want to miss being a father," Mendez said, as quoted by Sport Bible, Tuesday, January 10, 2023.
In addition, Khabib Nurmagomedov also posted a photo with his friends. “Take care of yourself, brothers. I hope my decision is only for the best, a big hug to you all. Thank you, you were a big reason for my success in sports.” Wrote Khabib in his Instagram account.
Before retiring, Khabib had made good on his promise by making Islam Makhachev the UFC lightweight champion within two years. Islam Makhachev won the UFC championship belt after defeating Charles Oliveira last October.
Khabib's resignation as coach seems to be making deep sadness for Islam Makhachev because Khabib will not accompany him in his first duel as UFC light heavyweight champion against Alexander Volkanovski.
The achievements of Khabib as a fighter are also fairly classy, he managed to record a perfect 29-0 victory in all professional events. Furthermore, Khabib is reportedly focused on his business, he has built Eagle FC, an MMA competition event.
He also does business in other fields such as culinary, property, and becomes a well-known brand ambassador. During his career, Khabib was very private about his wife and children.
