Billionaires Try to Find Anti-Aging Solutions and Become Immortal
- UNILAD
VIVA – Experts fear that elderly billionaires will use their wealth to increase lifespans or become immortal. This scary hypothesis is feared because of the recent technological advances in anti-aging science. A Bioethicist, Christopher Wareham believes that such advances could exacerbate all kinds of inequalities that already exist.
He stated that today scientists have a better handle on what causes us to grow old. Solutions such as cell-flushing vaccines and healing pills will help billionaires live longer, as quoted from the Daily Mail site.
"Suppose we had some kind of vaccine for the age pandemic. This would potentially exacerbate all kinds of inequalities that we have," Christopher Wareham stated in a statement.
He warned that such advances could create further disparities in an already divided country, "The longer you exist, the more wealth you have. And the richer you are, the more political influence you have,"
Figures such as Jeff Bezos (58), Israeli entrepreneur Yuri Milner (61), Google founder Larry Page (49), and Sergey Brin Funnel (49) are investing money to create 'vampire technology'.
Other older funders including Bill Gates (67), Richard Branson (67), and former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg (80) have provided financial backup to companies investigating how to extend life in recent years.
Progress has been slow. But recent breakthroughs in understanding what causes the aging process, such as DNA damage and our misbehaving proteins have been collected by scientists in their quest.
Researchers at Cambridge for example, have managed to reprogram skin cells from people aged 38-53, something that scientists say could make them 'younger' by up to 30 years.
