Amazon Plans to Layoff More than 18,000 Employees

VIVA – Recently, many companies have laid off their employees, Amazon being one of them. This company is planning a mass layoff more than 18,000 employees, 8,000 more than first expected.
CEO Andy Jassy write in a memo shared by the company’s board of directors to employees said that workers affected by the layoff policy include the HR division and the People, Experience, and Technology division. Complete information and the names of those affected by the layoffs will be submitted on January 18, 2023.
“This year’s review has been more difficult given the uncertain economy and that we’ve hired rapidly over the last several years,” chief executive, Andy Jassy said in a statement on Wednesday.
“Between the reductions, we made in November and the ones we’re sharing today; we plan to eliminate just over 18,000 roles. Several teams are impacted; however, the majority of role eliminations are in our Amazon Stores and PXT organizations.” he added.
In a different release, the company pioneered by Jeff Bezos is rumored to have taken out a collateralized debt of US$8 billion or the equivalent of IDR 124.8 trillion which was taken to increase the company's financing which is predicted to experience a slowdown in the future.
The loan will mature in 364 days or a year, with an option to extend for one year as well. The proceeds will be used for general corporate purposes.
"Given the uncertain macroeconomy, over the past few months we have used different financing options to support capital expenditures, debt repayment, acquisitions, and working capital needs," an Amazon spokesperson told to Reuters.
