VIVA – According to the Indonesian Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Indonesia has made it into the world's top five in terms of COVID-19 vaccination. Indonesia is below China, India, the United States, and Brazil.

"We can report that Indonesia has now entered the top 5 in the world, we are below America China, and India. We have given almost 450 million doses of vaccine injected to 204 million people out of 234 million people. Of these 204 million people, especially the target population is children and adults," Minister Budi said on Thursday, January 5, 2023.

This number is the accumulative total of 234 million vaccination targets, which includes children and adults. For the 6-year-old target, the coverage of COVID-19 vaccination dose one reached 86.95 percent and dose two at 74.49 percent. At the age of 12, dose one was 97.98 percent and dose two was 83.93 percent.

The achievement of COVID-19 vaccination is one of the keys to preventing the transmission of the Coronavirus. According to Budi, this is evident from the data on COVID cases that occurred in Indonesia.

“We also see this vaccination successfully decreasing the COVID-19 cases in Indonesia. It shows that our vaccination program was done right and effective enough,” Minister Budi Gunadi said.

In addition, no spike in COVID-19 cases occurred after the emergence of new variants after Omicron. However, Minister Budi also admitted, there was still an increase in cases but not drastically.

"The waves of new variants after Omicron, namely variants BA.4, BA.5, and most recently variants BQ.1 and XBB did not create a new spike in Indonesia," said the minister.
