VIVA – McDonald's may have started out as an all-American fast-food chain, but nowadays there are around 38,000 outlets worldwide in more than 100 countries. McDonald's main menu items include Big Macs, fries, and soft drinks.
But in each country, McDonald's also serves a variety of menus according to the trends and tastes of the population. While in Indonesia, this American restaurant has a rice menu with fried chicken.
In addition, there are many more unique menus that are only available in one country. Here are six of the most unusual McDonald's menus from around the world, as reported by various sources.
1. McLobster (Canada)
McLobster is served in a hot dog bun with a sauce made from lobster and shredded lettuce. It's been on McDonald's Canada menu since 1993, but currently can only be found in the Atlantic and New England regions in the summer when lobster is abundant.
2. McChicken Mozzarella (South Korea)
This burger consists of fried chicken in a spicy Arabic-inspired tomato sauce topped with several mozzarella cheese sticks. In addition, McD South Korea also features the Supreme Shrimp Burger and the Double Bulgogi Burger.
3. McMacaron (France)
France is famous for its sweet treat, the macaron. They are available in fast food restaurants in vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, pistachio and salted butter caramel flavors. Not only macarons, other sweets such as cheesecake or croissants with jam, butter or Nutella are also there.
4. McFalafel (Egypt)
McD combines local cuisine with a touch of its signature menu. This time, McD Egypt launched McFalafel which contains three pieces of falafel with tomatoes, lettuce, onions, pickles, and Tahini sauce in the bag and wrapped in tortilla bread.
5. Nasi Uduk (Indonesia)
McD Indonesia is among those who are diligent in presenting special menus. Think curry-flavored fried chicken and nasi uduk complete with shredded chicken, scrambled eggs, sambal terasi, and fried onions. They also provide rice boxes with various side dishes.
6. Basmati Rice Bowls (India)
One of the things we have in common with India is our love for dishes that explode with flavor and a bowl of rice that comes with it. In India, expect to find rice bowls that use basmati rice tossed with carrots, onions, zucchini, peas, and corn at their local McDonald's. There are two types of sauces they put on top of these rice bowls: the cheese sauce or the spicy sauce.
