List of Great Women who Made History in 2022

VIVA – Women have historically played a significant role in the history of human civilization. However, they are still unfortunately underrepresented in the male-dominated restoration. Even so, women have made a lot of progress over the past few decades.

Then, women have increased their income, education, and field of work, and continue to have a longer average life span than men. Well, here's the list of great women who made history in 2022 as reported by The Washington Post.

1. Ketanji Brown Jackson

Ketanji Brown Jackson became the first black woman to be appointed to the Supreme Court when President Joe Biden announced Jackson as the replacement for Justice Stephen G. Breyer who decided to retire.

She also made history as the first former public defender to be appointed to the high court, presenting a more diverse legal background.

2. Zara Rutherford

Zara Rutherford became the youngest woman to fly around the world on her own when she completed a five-month journey across five continents and 32,000 miles in January. Rutherford, who is only 19 years old, broke two records.

Being the youngest woman to travel and second being the first woman to circumnavigate the globe in a microlight aircraft. After graduated from high school, Rutherford deliberately took a break before entering college to travel. Rutherford hopes it will inspire more women to take up aviation.

A 62-year-old democratic socialist became Honduras' first female president in January after garnering 1.7 million votes. Castro triumphed on a 12-year run for the country's Conservative Party which US prosecutors say cultivated a narcotics ring.

In her inauguration speech, Castro detailed her plans to tackle corruption in the country, fight drug trafficking, and reduce poverty. "Two hundred years have passed since our independence was proclaimed. We are breaking chains and we are breaking traditions."

4. Preet Chandi

Preet Chandi became the first woman of color to explore the South Pole after completing her 700-mile journey in Antarctica in January 2022. Chandi, a 32-year-old British-Indian Army officer, began training for the journey in 2020.

Chandi attended polar training in Norway to learn basic survival skills before embarking on her journey. She hopes her journey will inspire other women to push themselves beyond their perceived limits.

5. Ayesha Malik

In January, Ayesha Malik was elected as Pakistan's first female Supreme Court judge. She currently sits alongside 16 male colleagues on the country's highest court. She has been a high court judge in Lahore for the past two decades, where she banned virginity tests used for women who were victimized or sexually assaulted.

These are some of the great things that have made history in 2022. This proves that the progress made by women is growing rapidly and also proves that women can show their achievements in male-dominated fields of work.
