VIVA – Competition in the MotoGP podium is very difficult and costs a lot of money. To compete with teams like Ducati or Yamaha, according to Kronreif Trunkenpolz Mattighofen (KTM) is not cheap. They already feel that way, and it's far from the Moto2 and Moto3 they once dominated.

KTM Director, Hubert Trunkenpolz said that entering MotoGP in 2017 was intended to raise the name of the manufacturer. They realize this because as long as they are in Moto3 and Moto2, the impact is not significant.

One of the things that made KTM want to come to MotoGP and excel was to get a sales market in the Asian region. In Moto3 and Moto2, they didn't get that.

"When we decided to enter MotoGP in 2017, we realized that the success we could achieve in Moto3 and Moto2 didn't appeal to anyone and didn't create the spin-offs we were hoping for, especially in the Asian market," Trunkenpolz said, quoted by Speedweek.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of KTM, Stefan Pierer said to be successful in MotoGP, many costs must be prepared. He estimates the amount to reach 70 million euros (IDR1.2 trillion).

"You need a big budget for a project like this. We are talking about IDR1.2 trillion gross, just for MotoGP.

"If you want to try to get on the podium, the costs are like that. Moto2 is actually the cheapest class, also because of the production machines, and Moto3 is far from the premier class," he added.

Furthermore, MotoGP, which has great appeal, is recognized by Hubert Trunkepolz as a medium for manufacturer promotion as well. Then, he believes that the big investment will pay off in the future.

"Only in MotoGP can you measure real returns. Brand awareness pays off enormously, and KTM is perceived as much stronger as a result. Our plan to recover MotoGP costs through additional sales is working," Trunkenpolz remarked.
