Energy Crisis, Switzerland Bans Electric Vehicles

VIVA – Currently, many countries are working to transform conventional vehicles into electric ones. It aims to reduce air pollution and overcome the world's increasingly expensive oil prices. However, Switzerland will ban electric vehicle in the country as energy crisis.
Officials in Switzerland have drafted an emergency proposal to restrict the usage of electricity if the energy crisis gets even worse than the current situation, as quoted from Drivespark, Thursday, December 8, 2022,
It is known that 60 percent of the country's electricity comes from water-powered plants. However, the cold winter that hit this year has drastically reduced the supply of electricity.
Therefore, it has forced the Switzerland to rely on imported energy which is on the expensive side. In fact, a decent amount of energy in Switzerland even during the summer season is imported.
Apart from that, the war in Ukraine has further affected the Swiss energy crisis as the war has contributed significantly to energy imports across all of Europe. Moreover, Switzerland's high dependence on Hydropower has resulted in the energy crisis becoming even worse than in other European countries.Â
If conditions get worse, the use of electricity will be further restricted to emergencies such as hospitals and police stations. Meanwhile, President of United States Joe Biden also asked his citizens not to charge electric cars at certain times. The reason is that the ongoing heat has made many people turn on the air conditioner and resulted in high electricity usage.
