Jember Indonesia Hit by 6,2 Magnitude Earthquake

VIVA – A 6.2 magnitude earthquake shook Jember, East Java, Indonesia on Tuesday, December 6, 2022. This earthquake happened at 1:07 PM in West Indonesian Time.
As reported from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) website, the epicenter was at sea 284 km southwest of Jember at coordinates 10.75 South Latitude (LS) and 113, 42 East Longitude (BT). The epicenter was at a depth of 10 kilometers.
The earthquake was also felt in several other areas (MMI Scale): III Jember, III Gubuk Mas, III Mataram, III Kepanjen, III Sumber Pucung, II Madiun, II Ponorogo, II - III Kuta, II - III South Kuta, II Bantul, II Yogyakarta, II Sawahan, II Klaten, II Banyuwangi, II Karangasem.
BMKG said that this earthquake has no tsunami potential. Even so, BMKG reminds local people to be aware of the potential for aftershocks.
