VIVA – Automotive industry players remain confident in the conducive business climate in Indonesia. This is indicated by the continued increase in investment, both to build factories or business expansion. Italian automotive company, PT Piaggio Indonesia officially has a motorcycle factory in Indonesia.

Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita inaugurated the PT Piaggio Indonesia factory and the first product line-off of Vespa LX in Jababeka Industrial Cikarang area, West Java on Wednesday, November 23, 2022.

"Today's inauguration is very monumental, starting from the ground-breaking that I did on November 9, 2021 and today, we witness the production facility has started its commercial operations with an initial production capacity of 10,000 units per year," Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita stated.

According to Minister Agus Gumiwang, the Piaggio Group facility on six hectares of land was built quite quickly and has now entered the commercial phase. The Minister of Industry also expressed his appreciation for the new investment, job creation, increased production of two-wheeled vehicles, and increased added value in the country with the opening of the new factory.

The Minister of Industry hopes that the inauguration of the factory and the first line-off will be a new milestone in increasing cooperation between Indonesia and Italy. Also, the establishment of the Vespa factory and production carried out by PT Piaggio Indonesia is one example of an illustration of the condition of the industrial sector which is currently optimistic and continues to grow.

"This inauguration is proof that the industry continues to expand and contribute to Indonesia's economic growth," Agus Gumiwang remarked.

As information. the growth of the transportation industry cannot be separated from the contribution of the automotive sector, especially the two-wheeled vehicle sector which has reached domestic sales of 4.1 million units and exports of 640 thousand units (CBU) in the January-October 2022 period.

The government through the Ministry of Industry has a high commitment to support the success of Piaggio Group in Indonesia, the support is given in the form of tax allowances to the company. The Minister of Industry also asked PT Piaggio Indonesia to encourage the increased use of local components, especially components produced by Small and Medium Industries (SMI).

"We hope that Piaggio Indonesia can support component SMEs to enter the Piaggio global supply chain and support the increase in the Domestic Component Level (TKDN)," the Minister of Industry remarked.

In the inauguration of the factory, Piaggio Indonesia also introduced Vespa Batik, the result of a combination of Italian technology and Indonesian local wisdom.

The Vespa Batik special edition represents a proud blend of a famous Italian cultural icon and Indonesia's artistic heritage, and symbolizes a commitment to the Indonesian market.

Piaggio Group Chief Executive of Product and Global Strategy, Michele Colaninno, revealed that the opening of the Piaggio Indonesia factory is one of the milestones in continuing the Piaggio Group's vision of prioritizing customer-centric commitments around the world and also in Asia.

The factory began operations producing Vespa scooters, as well as other brands and products of the Piaggio Group in the future. "Like all Piaggio Group manufacturing facilities, the new factory meets Piaggio's Global Factory Standardization that is applied worldwide," Michele Colaninno remarked.

Moreover, Country Head of PT Piaggio Indonesia, Marco Noto La Diega, expressed his gratitude for the full support of the Government of Indonesia and the relevant ministries, especially the Ministry of Industry for their valuable guidance in serving customers in Indonesia. Currently, Piaggio Group is also preparing the next phase of investment to continue operating in Indonesia.

"We are optimistic that the Piaggio Group's new factory in Indonesia will continue to contribute to providing premium Italian mobility solutions while delivering a unique lifestyle experience to the Indonesian automotive industry," Marco Noto La Diega explained.
