After 49 Years, the Death Mystery of Bruce Lee Finally Revealed
- U-Report
VIVA – The legend of Bruce Lee is the greatest movie martial artist in the world. He died suddenly in July 1973 at 32 years old and the cause has been debated ever since.
At that time, an autopsy found Bruce Lee's brain to be severely swollen and it was believed he died of cerebral edema that occurred as a result of taking the painkiller Equagesic. But now, surprisingly, a new study has been published that suggests Bruce Lee may have died from drinking too much water.
The team behind the study spent time reviewing the known facts around Bruce Lee’s death and now believe the actor’s kidneys could not process the excess water that ultimately killed him.
“We now propose, based on an analysis of publicly available information, that the cause of death was cerebral edema because of the hyponatremia,” the researchers wrote in the study, which was published in the Clinical Kidney Journal.
Hyponatremia occurs when fluid intake exceeds the ability of the kidneys to filter it from the blood. There is a lot of evidence to suggest that Lee consumed a lot of fluids, as reported by the Metro website, Monday, November 21, 2022.
Bruce Lee was reported to have abandoned solid food and anecdotal evidence suggests that Linda Lee's husband consumed little more than carrot juice, apple juice, and sake.
On the day of his death, he reportedly experienced headaches and dizziness at night after smoking marijuana and drinking water. Then, he took Equagesic and was found unresponsive two hours later.
“In summary, Bruce Lee had multiple risk factors predisposing to hyponatremia resulting from interference with water homeostasis mechanisms that regulate both water intake and water excretion,” the researchers wrote.
The hypothesis is that Bruce Lee died from a specific form of renal dysfunction in the form of an inability to excrete enough water to maintain water homeostasis. Ironically, one of Bruce Lee's most famous philosophies is 'be water, my friend'.
