VIVA – The coordinating minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, expressed his appreciation for the outcomes of the G20 Summit in Bali recently. This includes support for the development of renewable energy Geothermal potential in Indonesia, as well as the development of green hydrogen.
Therefore, Minister Airlangga invited the Ministers of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) to improve the quality of green economy investment and promote capacity building and technology transfer.
According to Airlangga, APEC needs to establish a financing mechanism to support the implementation of the green transition in member economies.
Indonesia needs about US$ 322.8 billion to achieve its 2030 National Determined Contribution (NDC) target, so innovative financing mechanisms are needed, including from the private sector, the international community, or other financings, said Airlangga Hartarto.
On promoting capacity building and technology transfer, he noted that developing economies face limited institutional capacity and lack of access to green technologies.
Airlangga also emphasized the importance of APEC as an incubator of ideas to foster concrete cooperation in supporting knowledge and information exchange and research collaboration to support an equitable green transition among APEC economies.
In addition, he also expressed support for the Bio-Circular Growth (BCG) Economy Model initiative and invited APEC economies to collaborate.
"The BCG economic model is very relevant given the challenges ahead. This economic model can not only support current economic needs but also support the sustainability of our future generations," Minister of Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto remarked.
In accompanying the President Joko Widodo at the Bilateral Meeting with New Zealand held in Bangkok, Thailand, on November 18, 2022, Minister Airlangga Hartarto expressed his appreciation for the support from New Zealand for ASEAN leadership in Indonesia in 2023.
