VIVA – Toyota officially introduced the next-generation Prius globally on November 16, 2022, through the YouTube platform. This sophisticated Toyota Prius comes with many changes and advanced technologies features.
The Toyota Prius comes in two versions. First, the Hybrid Electric Vehicle or HEV. This model can be ordered from the end of the year in Japan. The second type is the Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle or PHEV. The PHEV will be available in the spring of next year.
As quoted from Toyota's official statement, Wednesday, November 16, 2022, the new Prius is using the second-generation Toyota New Global Architecture platform, with a lower gravity point than before and the use of 19-inch rims.
One thing that is unique about this car is the integration between the ambient lights in the interior and the Toyota Safety Sense safety system. If the TSS detects a hazard, it will alert the driver by activating the ambient lighting. So, the driver can notice it sooner.
The engine of the Toyota Prius is a combination of a 2,000cc gasoline engine and an electric motor that can produce a total of 221 horsepower. Unfortunately, there is no mention of its fuel consumption.
The battery of this car is placed under the rear passenger seat, so the luggage capacity can be more spacious. The hybrid technology is fifth-generation, so the mileage is increased by 50 percent.
The roof of the All-New Toyota Prius uses panoramic moonroof technology which can be opened and embedded with solar panels to help charge the battery when the car is parked in an open space.
As information, until now, Toyota Prius has not officially enter the automotive market in Indonesia. This model is often displayed at exhibitions and is also used for taxi fleets but only for research purposes.
The total number of Toyota Prius sales in the world has reached more than five million units since it was first introduced in 1997. It is planned that the latest generation of the model will also be marketed in the United States and several countries in Europe.
