Bakrie Subsidiary Invites Elon Musk to Build Anti-congestion Tunnel

VIVA – A subsidiary of PT Bakrie & Brothers Tbk (BNBR), PT VKTR Teknologi Mobilitas (VKTR) invites Elon Musk to build anti-congestion tunnels in developing countries. The tunnel is known to be discussed when the leaders of the two companies dialogued at the B20 Summit, in Bali.

CEO & President Director of PT Bakrie & Brothers Tbk (BNBR), Anindya Novyan Bakrie conducted a one-on-one interview with Elon Musk, at the B20 Summit entitled 'Navigating Future Disruption of Global Technological Innovation'.

"Are you interested in building Boring Company tunnel projects in developing countries? Especially maybe using electric buses?" Anindya Bakrie asked.

In response, Elon Musk welcomed the question because anti-traffic tunnels with electric vehicles are a solution to traffic jams and pollution in cities. As known, Elon Musk has built an anti-traffic tunnel in Las Vegas. This tunnel was built by his company, Boring Company.

CEO of VKTR, Gilarsi W Setijono emphasized the desire, VKTR, which is engaged in vehicle electrification, welcomes and is ready to collaborate with Elon Musk, if it is true that the project will be carried out. Especially VKTR has experienced helping many parties in the electrification of public vehicles.

"We support the idea and we are ready to collaborate with Tesla or Boring Company," Gilarsi W Setijono remarked on Tuesday, November 15, 2022.

Gilarsi said the anti-traffic tunnel with electric vehicles is an interesting thing because it will be a solution to two major urban problems, namely congestion and air pollution. 

"Electric buses alone already present many solutions to the problem of pollution and congestion. If added with the anti-traffic tunnel, the traffic solution will be doubled," Gilarsi W Setijono remarked.

According to Gilarsi, so far, VKTR has cooperated with various parties related to vehicle electrification, from local governments, and SOEs, as well as domestic and foreign private sectors, to universities. He is also ready to work with more parties to accelerate vehicle electrification in Indonesia.

"This is our commitment to support the government in achieving the Net Zero Emission target by 2060," Gilarsi W Setijono remarked.
