VIVA – Former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Twitter, Jack Dorsey, has created a new social media platform called "Bluesky". This comes just a week after Elon Musk, a business magnate and investor, purchased Twitter with US$44 million.
As quoted from Sahara reporters’ site, within two days of the announcement, over 30,000 people have signed up for beta testing of the new app. Meanwhile, Elon Musk is busy reorganizing the microblogging site.
Jack Dorsey announced the launch of Bluesky and revealed that the new app will offer a new foundation for the social media platform.
"This will offer a new foundation that gives content creators freedom from the platform, freedom to build for developers and users in their choice of experience," Jack Dorsey remarked.
In 2019, Twitter funded work to develop 'open and decentralized standards for social media'. This indicates that Bluesky is a public interest company, Jack Dorsey said.
The application aims to standardize social media platform protocols. After fully developed, it will allow separate social media networks to interact with each other through open standards, even though each network has its curation and moderation system.
Bluesky was conceived as a solution to Twitter's failings. It was announced at a time when the social media network was accused of data misappropriation, misinformation, and election interference.
Jack Dorsey introduced the project in a Twitter thread justifying Donald Trump's ban on the platform.
"We're trying to do our part by funding initiatives around open decentralized standards for social media. Our goal is to be a client with that standard for the public conversation layer of the internet. We call it Bluesky," Dorsey tweeted.
