VIVA – The Shell Eco-Marathon 2022 was successfully held at the Mandalika International Circuit, West Nusa Tenggara on October 11 to 15, 2022. This international-scale competition produced the young generation as the best winners to develop sustainable energy solutions.
As known, Indonesia is the host for the first time, and more than 40 teams are represented from nine countries in the Asia Pacific region. The countries that followed were India, Kazakhstan, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Nepal, the Philippines, Singapore, and Vietnam.
Global General Manager of Shell Eco-marathon, Norman Koch, stated in this competition, Indonesian college students and eight other participating countries have worked tirelessly to develop sustainable and cleaner energy solutions to overcome the energy challenges to deal with today.
"So, it's great to see students participating in the Shell Eco-marathon to push the boundaries in terms of design skills, technology, and technical expertise, both on and off the track, to reach the finish line," Norman Koch said at the Mandalika International Circuit, Monday, September 17, 2022.
There are two categories of competition in the Shell Eco-Marathon 2022, namely, Urban Concept and Prototype. These categories are a category that requires participants to design energy-efficient conventional four-wheeled vehicles, according to the real needs of people in urban areas.
Meanwhile, the Prototype is more futuristic. This category encourages each team to maximize energy efficiency by paying attention to innovative aspects and elements in vehicle design. There are also various choices of types of energy sources used, such as ICE, Hydrogen, and Electric Batteries.
For the Urban Concept category, the Garuda UNY Eco Team from Yogyakarta State University topped the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) podium after setting the best record of 544 km/l. Meanwhile, Nakoela Team won the Prototype title for the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) energy category.
