This competition provides an opportunity for the younger generation to contribute to vehicle innovation that meets the elements of safety and can travel the farthest. Shell Eco-marathon has realized the company's Powering Progress mission by providing more and cleaner energy solutions.
Here are some interesting facts about the Shell Eco-Marathon 2022 competition in Indonesia:
1. Indonesia Becomes Host for First Time
The Shell Eco-Marathon competition was first launched in France in 1985. Indonesia became the host for the first time in history.
The Shell Eco-Marathon 2022 holds at the Mandalika International Circuit, West Nusa Tenggara, on October 12 to 15, 2022. Therefore, many institutions and companies support this activity.
2. It Has Two Competition Categories
When the competition took place, the Shell Eco-Marathon 2022 had two categories of vehicle classes including Prototype and UrbanConcept. The prototype is a type of vehicle that has the potential to push limits in energy efficiency.
Meanwhile, the UrbanConcept was built to take into account human needs such as driver comfort and luggage space, as well as for more roadworthy specifications including four wheels and windshield wipers. The car design is designed for teams considering driving in the city.
3. Indonesian Team Dominates as Participants
The participants of this competition are attended by various countries in Asia such as India, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Malaysia, Nepal, Philippines, Singapore, and Vietnam. Of these countries, Indonesia was dominated by 33 teams inhabited by students.
The universities from Indonesia that participated in this activity included BINUS ASO School of Engineering, Diponegoro University, ITB, ITS, Bandung State Manufacturing Polytechnic, Sriwijaya University, Syiah Kuala University, Brawijaya University, Gadjah Mada University (UGM), University of Indonesia (UI), University of Jember, and the University of Muhammadiyah Malang.
Furthermore, from Ponorogo Muhammadiyah University, Pontianak Muhammadiyah University, Sidoarjo Muhammadiyah University, Surakarta Muhammadiyah University, Jakarta State University, Malang State University, Padang State University, Semarang State University, Surabaya State University, Yogyakarta State University, UPN Jakarta, UPI, and USU.
4. The Flow of Competition
The events flow in the Shell Eco-Marathon 2022 competition, the participants are subjected to a technical inspection. This technical inspection is carried out in 12 stages, starting from weighing the vehicle to checking the fuel.
After passing the inspection, the participating teams were allowed to practice by trying out the Mandalika Circuit trajectory. However, participants who have not passed the technical inspection will be given another chance.
Next, the competition starts with the first Urban Concept, and will be continued with the Prototype competition. On the last day, the winners of these categories will be announced and close with the announce awards to the winners.
