MXGP 2023 Calendar Has Been Released, Indonesia Becomes the Host

VIVA – The Moto Cross Grand Prix (MXGP) calendar has been released and includes Indonesia as the host, specifically in Sumbawa and Lombok. The Sumbawa MXGP will be held on June 25, 2023, at the Samota Circuit. Then, Lombok will become a host on July 2, 2023.

The Governor of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), Zulkieflimansyah feels grateful that NTB is trusted to host two MXGP 2023 series representing Indonesia.

"Alhamdulillah, the MXGP schedule has been released for next year, 2023, and thank God, Indonesia will get two MXGP series next year," Zulkieflimansyah remarked on Tuesday, October 11, 2022.

However, until now the MXGP 2023 location has not been confirmed in Lombok. According to information circulating, MXGP Lombok will be held at the former Selaparang Airport, Mataram City. On the land of the former airport, a circuit will be built for the international motocross race.

The FIM Motocross World Championship is the most prestigious motocross racing championship organized by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM). It is divided into two distinct classes: MXGP and MX2. Race duration is 30 minutes plus two laps per race.

The FIM Motocross World Championship is a worldwide motocross series approved by the FIM and Inaugurated in 1957 using the 500-cc engine displacement formula.

In 1962 the 250cc class was added and in 1975, the 125cc class was introduced. Before 1957, this championship was known as the European Championship.

Also, in 2004, the FIM changed the displacement formula to reflect changes in engine technology and as a step towards a more environmentally friendly four-stroke engine. The new MX1 class becomes the premier class, enabling two-stroke engines up to 250cc and four-stroke engines up to 450cc.

The MX2 class allows two-stroke engines up to 125cc and four-stroke motors up to 250cc. The MX3 class allows two-stroke engines up to 500cc and four-stroke engines up to 650cc.
