VIVA – Virtual children born in the Metaverse will become a reality in the next 50 years, according to an Artificial Intelligence expert. Author Catriona Campbell believes that parents will care for their digital children in virtual reality using a headset to feel they are truly on their side.

These virtual kids will look like real ones but can be turned off at the touch of a button. Catriona Campbell argues that they will help the world overcome 'overpopulation'.

As quoted from the Daily Star website, Monday, October 10, 2022, in a book released this year, Campbell said the 'Tamagotchi Generation' would be born and made available to parents for a small monthly fee.

“Virtual children may seem like a giant leap from where we are now, but in 50 years technology will advance to such an extent that babies in the metaverse are no different from those in the real world,” Catriona Campbell remarked.

She added that scientists are now on their way to creating a 'real' generation of Tamagotchis for their parents.

"Based on existing consumer demand, which I think will happen, AI kids will be widely available for a relatively small monthly fee," Campbell remarked.

The statement that the world will become overpopulated is not supported by data. Although the global population is expected to continue to increase over the next century, it will eventually flatten and slow down.

Virtual children are already happening in Western countries, including the UK which has an aging population and declining birth rate. It means that the population will decline by 2025 and begin to shrink, which will lead to many unfilled jobs.
