VIVA – Patriarchy is a social system in which men have special rights over women. Patriarchy is the behavior of prioritizing men over women in society or social groups that can arise because of productive and reproductive perceptions of women and men.
Historically, patriarchy has manifested in the legal, political, religious, and economic social organization of different cultures. Well, here are the reasons why patriarchal culture lasts a long time in Indonesia.
1. In the Name of Customary and Religious Rules
Some areas in Indonesia still have strong customary rules that make the position of men higher. There is a view in religion that positions men as leaders. So, women do not deserve an opinion. Although in the end, it can be abused continuously.
It is no problem if women still have the right to go forward and realize their personality development. But not everyone views this rule.
2. Patriarchy is Still Highly Respected by Society
You must be familiar with this sentence. On the male side, according to the opinion, men must be braver, should not cry, and must be strong, while women are predicated on being spoiled and incompetent.
Now not a few women can fight the stigma. Many are strong and like to work hard than lazy men.
3. Capitalism Makes Women Appear Like in Advertising
Look at the perfume, clothing, or cosmetic advertisements circulating, as if women are portrayed as someone who only look at appearances. How to conquer the man who has been coveted.
Women consider respecting love and improving themselves for the sake of a boyfriend, not for the sake of self-love. If that is not what is shown, surely the product representation will be less attractive. Sales will not increase.
Women were forced to accept this fact because they were bombarded with advertisements with the same tone and packaged in attractive visuals.
4. The Job Difference between Women and Men in Prehistoric Times
Since prehistoric times or hunting and gathering, patriarchal practices have not directly occurred. At that time, men worked outside their homes. They hunt and look for food.
Meanwhile, women work in a more comfortable zone. They will take care of the children, cook the game, or collect the surrounding food ingredients such as fruit.
This tradition of division of labor is still considered fair person. this continues to this day. In fact, from the side of women have a strong desire to keep working and create achievements.
5. Parents Bequeath Patriarchy Culture
Patriarchy culture has existed since time immemorial. It could be said, parents pass this on to their children and grandchildren. Some so many parents arrange for their daughters to be more obedient, not dirty, to be able to do housework, and other demands.
Whereas supposedly, not only girls should be demanded to be versatile, but boys should also be able to do housework, not be dirty, and others.
