The Progress of G20 at the Global Governance Forum in New York

VIVA – Indonesian Foreign Minister, Retno Marsudi conveyed the progress of preparations for the G20 high-level conference in front of Ministers from a group of developing countries at the Global Governance Group Forum in New York, United States of America on Wednesday, September 21, 2022.
"In front of this forum, last year, I presented the vision of Indonesia's G20 presidency that focuses on global recovery. Today, a year later, the challenges we face are different, geo-political tensions are heating up, the food and energy crisis caused by the war in Ukraine, and new challenges are health issues," Retno remarked when opening her speech at the meeting.
"Of course, as the President of the G20, Indonesia will not remain silent. Indonesia is making adjustments to ensure that the G20 remains a catalyst for global economic recovery," Retno Marsudi said in a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs received on Thursday.

Retno Marsudi said that Indonesia's G20 presidency was focused on concrete results.
"This is the first time that the G20 concrete deliverables are focused not only on its members but on all countries. There are 243 proposals from countries and 43 proposals from international organizations, which will benefit all, especially developing countries," the Indonesian Foreign Minister remarked.
Retno Marsudi mentioned several other prominent achievements during Indonesia's G20 presidency.
First, in the health sector, it was agreed to establish the Financial Intermediary Fund (FIF) which has raised funds of US$1.4 billion for the prevention of future pandemics.
Second, in the digital sector, a Digital Innovation Network (DIN) has been established which connects international start-up companies to share experiences and funding.
Third, in the energy sector, various collaborations, especially for clean energy and reducing carbon emissions, have been prepared and agreed upon.
"With the G20 Summit getting closer, we must not be trapped by heated geopolitical dynamics. We must continue to ensure that the G20 produces favorable results for all of us. Therefore, I hope for support from all parties," Retno Marsudi remarked.
The ministerial meeting of the Global Governance Group Forum was chaired by Singapore's Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan and attended by representatives of developing countries, including the Philippines, Brunei Darussalam, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Jamaica, and Botswana.
