Apple Releases iOS 16, Available on iPhone 8 to iPhone 14
- CNET
VIVA – Apple officially releases the latest operating system, namely iOS 16. This new system is already available and can be downloaded and installed on iPhones starting from the iPhone 8 series to the latest iPhone, the iPhone 14 series.
This latest system brings many updates, such as a lock screen with widgets and features to cancel and edit iMessage, to the new "Home" application.
As quoted from The Verge website on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, this update is not accompanied by an operating system update for the iPad known as iPadOS 16.1. So, Apple will follow up with an additional notification if the operating system will be released.
Meanwhile, devices that can try the iOS 16 are the iPhone 14 series (iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max), iPhone 13 series (iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max), iPhone 12 series (iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max).
Also, iPhone 11 series (iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max), iPhone X series (iPhone X, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR), iPhone SE second and third generation, iPhone 8 series (iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus).
Most updates are seen in the "screen lock" because users can add "widgets" to the lock screen and the widget can function like notifying an incoming notification.
For iPhone 14 Pro devices, iOS 16 will make the widget look like a notification even if the device is not in use due to the "Always On Display" feature.
The next update comes from iMessage, which is a feature to delete and edit messages.
Users can edit messages in iMessage up to 15 minutes after sending a message, while for the delete message feature, users can delete any message up to two minutes after sending a message.
Apple also added a "mark as unread" feature. So, users can remember to reply to messages later. The latest system iOS 16 also brings the ability to fast-forward or rewind while the user is listening.
One of the other best improvements that iOS 16 brings is the built-in "haptics keyboard" improvement so users can feel the vibrations while typing.
iOS 16 also includes a redesigned "Home" app with a new camera view and widget on the lock screen and the ability to control Apple Watch from iPhone.
iPhone users can copy text from photos. For privacy concerns, Apple added "Lockdown" Mode, an "extreme" protection mode for people who may be the target of spyware.
The "Lockdown" mode blocks message attachments, disables link previews, disables some web browsing technologies by default, and even blocks FaceTime calls from unknown numbers.
Like the release of iOS 15, not all features in iOS 16 are presented, for example, the "Library" feature of photos in iCloud for sharing with family is planned to be released at the end of the year.
