Carlos Alcaraz Becomes Youngest Winner US Open

VIVA – Young tennis player from Spain, Carlos Alcaraz managed to become the champion of the 2022 US Open tournament. In final was held on Sunday, September 11, 2022, at Arthur Ashe Stadium, Alcaraz defeated Casper Ruud through a duel in four sets for three hours and twenty one minutes.
The 19-year-old won 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (7-1), and 6-3. Not only fighting for the championship title, but this match also determines who will be ranked first in the world.
As launched from Sports.ndtv.com, Ruud dropped the set but triumphed in terms of sportsmanship when he called a double bounce on himself in the eighth game, conceding the point to the Spaniard.
Alcaraz served it out to love and a one-set lead courtesy of his thirteen winners to six for the Norwegian.
This title is the first grand slam for Alcaraz. He also carved a special record that entered the world tennis history books.
At the age of 19 years and 4 months, Carlos Alcaraz become the youngest player to occupy the ATP rankings (since 1973). He surpassed Lleyton Hewitt's record to become number one in 2001 at the age of 20.
Alcaraz also became the youngest grand slam champion after Rafael Nadal who won the 2005 French Open at the age of 19.
Because of this win, Carlos Alcaraz confirmed to rise to the throne of world number one. He replaced Daniil Medvedev who had previously been eliminated from the US Open 2022.
